SVR, CIA chiefs discussed non-use of nuclear arms in Ankara last week — Erdogan

ANKARA, November 17. /TASS/. The director of Russia’s foreign intelligence SVR, Sergey Naryshkin, and the director of the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, at their meeting in Ankara last week discussed the non-use of nuclear weapons, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the journalists of the presidential pool upon his return from the G20 summit in Bali.

"According to information received from the head of the [Turkish] intelligence, Russia and the United States discussed the non-use of nuclear weapons. The parties currently display no signs they may try to use them. We would like to see them meet more often, and we are ready to promote this. It (nuclear weapons use - TASS) might lead to a new world war, God forbid. We must rule out this risk," Erdogan stressed, according to the TRT television channel.

The chiefs of the SVR and the CIA met at the headquarters of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in Ankara on November 14. The Turkish presidency’s director of communications, Fahrettin Altun, said after the talks that the negotiators had discussed threats to international security, including those related to the possible use of nuclear weapons.
