G20 states to take urgent actions to prevent hunger, says declaration

It is noted that the challenges to global food security have been "exacerbated by current conflicts and tensions"

BALI /Indonesia/, November 16. /TASS/. The countries of the Group of Twenty (G20) will take urgent actions to solve the issue of food shortage and establish supply chains, according to the declaration by the group’s leaders approved on Wednesday following the Bali-hosted summit.

"We commit to taking urgent actions to save lives, prevent hunger and malnutrition, particularly to address the vulnerabilities of developing countries, and call for an accelerated transformation towards sustainable and resilient agriculture and food systems and supply chains," the document reads. The challenges to global food security have been "exacerbated by current conflicts and tensions," according to the declaration.

"Recalling the G20 efforts such as the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, we welcome global, regional, and national initiatives in support of food security, and in particular note the progress made by the UN Secretary General's Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy and Finance, as well as the World Bank Group’s and IMF’s food security responses," G20 leaders emphasized.
