Russia, China, Turkey save Balkans during COVID-19 pandemic — Albanian PM

"We saw that the European Union acted as a federation of selfish rich countries who turned away from the responsibility to share vaccines with other Central European countries after confronting the fear of death," Edi Rama said

PARIS, November 11. /TASS/. Russia, China and Turkey saved the Western Balkans during the coronavirus pandemic, while the European Union "acted as a federation of selfish rich countries," Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said, addressing the Paris Peace Forum on Friday.

"There was a pandemic that made it clear to us that the absence of a bridge [between countries] can cause a tragedy. We saw that the European Union acted as a federation of selfish rich countries who turned away from the responsibility to share vaccines with other Central European countries after confronting the fear of death. For a long time, we kept hearing the mantra <...> that China, Russia and Turkey would lay their hands on the region. But what happened? We would have been unable to survive the first wave of the pandemic without China, Russia and Turkey because vaccines weren’t coming from the European Union, they were coming from those three countries," Rama stated.

The Paris Peace Forum, which brings together representatives of countries, international organizations, companies and non-government organizations, is focused on ways to overcome an environmental, economic and social multi-crisis.
