PARIS, April 10. /TASS/. France’s incumbent President Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen of the far-right political party National Rally are leading in the first round of Sunday’s presidential elections in France, BFM TV reported.
According to preliminary data, Macron is scoring 28.5% of votes and Le Pen - 24.5%.
At the previous elections in 2017, Macron won 24% and Le Pen - 21.3% in the first round of voting. The runoff voting was won b y Macron, who scored 66.1% of votes. Le Pen was supported by 33.9% of voters.
Jean-Luc Melenchon, the leader of La France Insoumise democratic socialist, left-wing political party, has 20.2% of votes, Eric Zemmour, the leader of the Reconquista far-right movement, has 7.1% Republican candidate Valerie Pecresse has 5.1%, and Social Party candidate Anne Hidalgo - 1.9%
The first round of presidential elections was held in France on Sunday. Twelve candidates vied for the presidential office.
