MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. The International Skating Union (ISU) expects to see the Court of Arbitration (CAS) publish a decision in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva by February 12, 2024, the ISU’s press office said in a statement on Thursday.
The Swiss-based CAS announced earlier in the month that a final decision in Valieva’s case is expected by the end of January 2024.
"The Council noted that the Court of Arbitration for Sport expects to publish its decision regarding the arbitration proceedings involving… Kamila Valieva by February 12, 2024," the statement from the ISU reads.
The CAS held hearings on Valieva’s case on September 26-28. The court decided to adjourn until November 9-10 to allow time to prepare additional paperwork. On November 9, Valieva was re-examined by CAS arbitrators.
Valieva, 17, is suspected of using the banned drug trimetazidine. It was detected in a sample taken on December 25, 2021, the results of which were publicly disclosed only in February 2022 during the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. By that time, the Russian skater had already won an Olympic gold medal in the team competition.
