MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Hydraulic processes, including internal currents, are leading to the movement of water masses containing fuel oil from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov, Research Director of the Institute of Water Problems Viktor Danilov-Danilyan said at a press conference in TASS.
"Natural hydraulic processes make the transfer [from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov], and the currents are in place, and the surge is inevitable and storms, when the surge intensifies, and all of that absolutely results in the move of water mass and everything they contain, and they contain all the fuel oil not yet washed ashore," the expert said.
A portion of such fuel oil may go to the open sea where it will be processed by biotas, Danilov-Danilyan said. "It is difficult to say what portion will pass by beaches of the Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Crimea respectively. A small one most likely, the bulk will be definitely driven ashore," he added.
Two tankers had the shipwreck on December 15. Tankers carried about 9,200 metric tons of fuel oil. The oil products spill occurred in the Black Sea as a result of the incident.
