Border checkpoint in Russia’s Kursk region comes under mortar attack from Ukraine

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. A border checkpoint in the Russian region of Kursk has come under mortar fire from Ukraine, there were neither casualties nor destruction, Roman Starovoit, the regional governor, said on his Telegram channel on Saturday.

"Tonight, a border checkpoint near Elizavetovka in the Glushkovo district was shelled with mortars from Ukraine. No one was hurt. There was no destruction. The firing position was suppressed with the return fire opened by our border guards and Armed Forces," he wrote.

The governor added that he was maintaining constant contact with military officials.

"The situation in the border areas is under control. I ask the residents to keep calm," he noted.

The Glushkovo district is situated in the west of the Kursk region, bordering Ukraine’s Sumy region. It covers about 850 square kilometers and has a population of about 17,900 people.
