Russia to help African countries strengthen combat capabilities to fight threats — Lavrov

The foreign minister underscored Russia's commitment to the principle that African nations should independently resolve their conflicts with the support of relevant continental organizations

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Russia will assist African countries in strengthening their combat capabilities to counter various forms of crime and terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at a news conference following discussions in Moscow with Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Amon Murwira.

"We, in Russia, will continue to contribute to the efforts of the global community to stabilize and resolve conflicts on the African continent," Lavrov said. "Russia will also enhance its assistance to regional countries on a bilateral basis, which includes improving the combat effectiveness of national armed forces, training military personnel, and strengthening security and law enforcement agencies. This support aims to bolster the capacity of our African partners to address challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and organized crime in their territories."

At the same time, Lavrov underscored Russia's commitment to the principle that African nations should independently resolve their conflicts with the support of relevant continental organizations.

"Settlements imposed from outside never lead to sustainable resolutions of crises. This has been proven time and again, and we will continue to advocate for the notion that African problems require African solutions," Lavrov emphasized.
