Many Latin American countries show interest in developing relations with Russia — Lavrov

According to the foreign minister, "relations between Russia and countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are historically friendly"

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. The overwhelming majority of nations in Latin America are demonstrating interest in the development of relations with Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Russian and foreign media in an interview.

"We are currently receiving signals of interest in strengthening and expanding partnership with Russia from the overwhelming majority of the Latin American countries," the minister said. "We are also rapidly developing dialogue on political matters, as well as on economy, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation through diplomatic channels."

According to Russia’s top diplomat, "relations between Russia and countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are historically friendly." "Russians and Latin Americans have long-standing mutual sympathy. The mutual respect is also reflected in the attitude towards global culture, and cultures of each other. This truly strongly ties our peoples together," he noted.

Lavrov added that Russia and Latin American countries are rapidly increasing cooperation at regional and municipal levels. "We are ready to fully commit to the deepening [of this cooperation], to develop it to the extent that Latin American countries are interested in," he noted.

The minister emphasized that Russia’s ties with the region’s nations are grounded in "equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect." "There is no ideology, no doctrine."
