LUGANSK, March 3. /TASS/. Ukrainian troops tried to stage a counterattack in the Krasny Liman direction but were repelled by Russian forces and retreated sustaining losses, Andrey Marochko, a retired colonel of the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic, told TASS on Friday.

"In the Krasny Liman direction, the enemy is trying to regain its lost positions. Ukraine’s army staged another attempt to counterattack our advancing forces and regain its lost advantageous positions near the settlements of Makeyevka, Nevskoye, and Chernopopovka," he said.

According to Marochko, Ukrainian forces' counterattack was stopped by Russian artillery and motorized infantry units and the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces and the Ukrainian troops "retreated to the positions sustaining losses in manpower and weapons."

Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Thursday that the Center groups of Russian forces has neutralized up to 160 Ukrainian troops and destroyed a Gvozdika self-propelled system in the Krasny Liman direction.
