Cuban president says ‘Yankee Empire’ is common enemy for Moscow, Havana

According to Miguel Diaz-Canel, sanctions against Moscow are unfair, so it is necessary to continue to defend Russia's position on the world stage

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday said he believes Moscow and Havana oppose a shared enemy in the face of the "Yankee Empire."

"Russia and Cuba have a shared enemy: It’s the Yankee Empire that manipulates a large part of the world. Who knows that better than us? We have had the first-hand experience of this for more than 60 years, being under a blockade," he said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, which was broadcast by the Rossiya-24 television channel. He was referring to the trade embargo that Washington imposed on the island in the 1960s.

According to the Cuban leader, sanctions against Moscow are unfair, so it is necessary to continue to defend Russia's position on the world stage. "It’s our understanding that the current conflict has its origins in the US manipulation of the world community," Diaz-Canel said.

The Russian leader said before that Moscow always supported Havana in its struggle for independence and saw that Cuba took the same position toward Russia.
