Japan rocked by 7.1-magnitude earthquake

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning, but pointed out that tsunami was unlikely to cause any damage

TOKYO, February 13. /TASS/. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck off northeast Japan on Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said adding that its epicenter was located off the coast of Fukushima prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning, but pointed out that tsunami was unlikely to cause any damage. However, local residents are asked on television not to approach coastal areas.

Pieces of equipment and furniture fell down in the TASS office in Tokyo during the one-minute tremors, and the gas flow was automatically shut off. Currently, the tremors stopped, but the agency warns of potential aftershocks.
