US military operation in Venezuela kills 83 people, defense chief says

32 Cuban comrades were among those 83 killed, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said

CARACAS, January 17. /TASS/. Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez has said that 83 people, including at least 47 service members of the country, were killed as a result of the US military operation.

"As you know, 32 Cuban comrades, who were with us, were among those 83 killed, and we provided assistance to more than 112 wounded," he was quoted as saying by the Primicia portal.

On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military targets in Venezuela. The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic Yvan Gil Pinto said called Washington's actions military aggression. A state of emergency was declared in the country. US President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes on Venezuelan territory. Washington carried out an operation to capture and remove Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from the country.
