EC not interested in continuation of Russian gas transit via Ukraine

"The Commission does not support any discussions on the contract extension nor other solutions to maintain transit flows and has not been involved in any kind of negotiations on this," the statement reads

BRUSSELS, December 17. /TASS/. The European Commission (EC) is not interested in extending agreements on transit of Russian gas to EU countries through Ukrainian territory, Reuters said citing a Commission spokesperson.

"The Commission has no interest in the continuation of Russian gas transit via Ukraine," the spokesperson said.

"The Commission does not support any discussions on the contract extension nor other solutions to maintain transit flows and has not been involved in any kind of negotiations on this," he added.

The statement by the European Commission follows a letter by energy ministers of a number of Eastern European countries, including Hungary and Slovakia, who expressed concern over risks for the EU’s energy security after the agreement on transit of gas through Ukrainian territory expires in 2025.
