Restriction on supplies of foreign agricultural goods net positive for Russia — Putin

"Not only have we achieved production growth, but also significantly increased export supplies, which also speaks to the high quality of our products," the head of state said

TULA, April 4. /TASS/. Russia’s decision to restrict supplies of foreign agricultural products to its market turned out to be a net positive for the country, President Vladimir Putin believes.

"At some point, in 2014, as our response to Western sanctions <...> we, in turn, introduced restrictions on access for foreign agricultural products to the domestic market. This was a big plus for the development of Russian agriculture, large farms, and self-sufficient farms," the head of state said on Tuesday at a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council.

According to Putin, this created conditions for accelerated import substitution and the growth of agricultural production, and citizens have a wide range of Russian-made goods and products to choose from. "Even more environmentally friendly, clean and high quality," Putin stressed.

He added that Russia not only built up agricultural production but increased exports of agricultural products.

"Not only have we achieved production growth, but also significantly increased export supplies, which also speaks to the high quality of our products," the head of state said.

The President cited reference data: agricultural production in all categories grew in Russia from 2014 to 2022 by 27.4%, and the export of agricultural products in 2022 reached $41.6 billion, an increase of 2.1 times compared to 2014.

"More than two times," Putin stressed.
