ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. The Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard will build by 2024 two passenger ships - the Andrey Dubensky and the Viktor Astafyev, which will work on a socially important route between Krasnoyarsk and Dudinka along the Yenisei River, the Krasnoyarsk Region’s Governor Alexander Uss told reporters.
The official has come to St. Petersburg to see how the shipbuilding continues.
"We are aware of certain difficulties related to the international situation and the sanctions. Due to the difficulties with equipment supplies from Germany and mainly from Japan, we’ll have to delay the due date for the lead ship by six months. This is not a problem - specialists have a clear understanding about when and what part will arrive. Our decision to build the vessels was timely, because now the main components are already here. We believe that in 2024 Krasnoyarsk will welcome two motor ships at a time - the Andrey Dubensky and the Viktor Astafyev. This will be an important, big event for us," he said.
The vessels of the kind have attracted interest from Russia’s other regions, thus the ships may be in serial production in future, he continued. The shipbuilding project from now on will be dubbed the Yenisei, the governor added.
Replacing the import
The project’s leader Dmitry Andronov told TASS that when planning further work, the shipyard was choosing from domestic manufacturers of certain parts. Thus, foreign-made important components would be: a diesel generator (Riga Diesel Plant), the main engine (Mitsubishi Motors), a clutch with a gearbox (originally German, but due to the sanctions, it will be a Chinese version made under Korean and German licenses).
"Panel equipment: shafts, screws, electrical equipment - all these are domestic. Most parts of the wastewater systems, that is ventilation and air conditioning, are also domestic. The doors and metal are also ours. We have been looking for a long time for a company to make glazing. So, it will be made by the Segal plant in Krasnoyarsk," he said.
About vessels
For the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard it is the biggest ever order in terms of civil vessels. The plant uses advance technologies of 3D modeling of hull structures, ship systems, finishing works. Director of the Agat Design Bureau Sergey Porodnikov told TASS the biggest tasks had been to offer additional comfort for passengers and to ensure smooth work on a long route.
"We faced a complicated problem - a vessel, using 40 tons of fuel, must cover 4,000 kilometers. Therefore, we have used energy-saving technologies, which consequently required a number of additional systems that we initially had not even planned, including mass-saving technologies. One of the key tasks was to make specifically comfortable conditions for passengers. This requires fairly complex ventilation and air conditioning systems, then cabins of certain size and interior. We had to take all these requirements into account when building the ship," the designer said.
The vessel will have three passenger decks. The main deck will have second-class passenger cabins, service rooms, crew cabins, medical cabins and storerooms. On the remaining decks there will be higher-class cabins and several restaurants. Of the necessary 48 items of equipment, the producer has purchased 26 items.
"Initially, the project was planned for 180 passengers, now they are 245. We had to transform the cabins - they may accommodate two to four passengers. We have planned a rather developed infrastructure to serve passengers. A few restaurants, and a multi-purpose space on the upper deck, which may be used for various events," he added.
About Yenisei Shipping Company
Transportation - passenger and cargo - in the Krasnoyarsk Region is associated mainly with the waterway along the main river - the Yenisei. It is still difficult to get to many locations in this part of the country by any other transport. Partially, the Krasnoyarsk Region is located in the Arctic zone, which additionally complicates the sailing.
Russian merchants floated the first steamship in that area in 1882. It was called the Moscow, It was built in Stetten, and via the Kazachincky port it was pulled to Krasnoyarsk with the help of cables and gates. Less than 20 years later, 26 steamships operated on the Yenisei. At that time, the Yenisei Shipping Company Partnership was established. The main route was between Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseisk. The first passenger steamer began working on the Yenisei in 1938. It connected Krasnoyarsk and Dudinka. Presently, one passenger steamer, the Maxim Gorky, is working on the Yenisei, but neither in terms of tasks nor in terms of capabilities can it be compared with the motor ships that the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard is planning to build for Krasnoyarsk by 2024.
