MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The arrest of Russian real estate in the EU and the US in retaliation for possible nationalization of the enterprises of those foreign companies that folded their business in Russia would lead to mutually negative consequences, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"[This would entail] negative [consequences]," he said responding to a question on the matter.
"There are mutual negative repercussions here," the Kremlin official added.
On March 7, Secretary of United Russia’s General Council Andrey Turchak said that United Russia was proposing to nationalize the enterprises of those Western companies that refused to operate in Russia. According to him, in all cases this is a purely political decision by the foreign organizations. On Wednesday, the state legislative commission approved the initiative providing for the possibility of nationalizing the property of foreign organizations leaving the Russian market.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. Following this, the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other countries announced the introduction of sanctions against Russian legal entities and private individuals.
