NAIROBI, December 24. /TASS/. Russia’s embassy in Sudan has refuted media reports alleging that the Sudanese authorities refused from hosting a Russian naval logistics support base.
"We relished reading an article by a well-known foreign agent and fake-maker, The Guardian’s Dutch branch - The Moscow Times (listed a s a foreign agent in Russia) - that ‘things are very bad’ for Russia in Sudan. It was a special delight to see that the quality of the publication hit a new low because everything what was written there is a lie from the very first to the very last word. So, there is no need to stoop to commenting it. Even the links cited in the publication are either misinterpreted or refer to non-existent pages or send us back to 2020," the embassy said.
Some Western media outlets reported earlier, citing anonymous Sudanese intelligence sources, that Khartoum had allegedly annulled an agreement with Moscow on placing a Russian naval logistics support base due to potential US sanctions.
The agreement was reportedly signed in early December 2020. The base is supposed to be used to repair Russian ships, replenish their resources and provide crews with possibilities to rest. Under the document, the base is to employ a maximum of 300 people and harbor not more than four Russian ships.
