Iran ready to sell oil to India, assuming New Delhi wants to buy — Foreign Minister

Abbas Araghchi recalled that trade between India and Iran exceeded $20 billion

NEW DELHI, May 15. /TASS/. Iran is ready to resume oil sales to India, but the decision is up to India, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at a press conference in New Delhi.

"India used to buy Iranian. It stopped buying it after the US imposed illegal unilateral sanctions. We are obviously interested in continuing the oil trade and are ready to sell to India, but we understand their position and understand the consequences of US sanctions," Araghchi said.

As he said, Tehran is not opposed to selling oil to India.

"It's up to the Indian government to decide. I believe that as soon as the sanctions are lifted, we will immediately return to the level of trade between our countries that existed before the US imposed sanctions on Iran," the Iranian diplomat stated.

He recalled that trade between India and Iran exceeded $20 billion.

"It's much lower now," Araghchi stated.
