NEW YORK, August 19. /TASS/. The White House and European leaders have agreed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead a task force to formulate security guarantees for Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.

The group will include national security advisors and NATO representatives, with the US taking on a coordinating role.

European officials told the publication that the guarantees under discussion could involve a military force, air defense, weapons supplies, and monitoring of a potential ceasefire. They also noted that Washington may provide indirect support to European peacekeepers through a variety of means.

In turn, Bloomberg reported that the guarantees will be shaped through the work of the Coalition of the Willing, with the precise format still to be determined. According to the agency, a multinational force could also be deployed in the future.

On August 18, Trump received Vladimir Zelensky, presidents of Finland and France Alexander Stubb and Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, and the head of the Italian government Giorgia Meloni. In addition, the meeting was attended by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. According to Macron, the talks focused on security guarantees for Ukraine.
