Negotiations between Ukraine, US launch in Jeddah

Representatives of the United States earlier stated that Kiev’s willingness to take steps toward a peace settlement of the conflict with Russia would be a topic of the negotiations

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Talks between the Ukrainian and US delegations have started in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ukrainian side is represented by Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff Andrey Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. The US delegation is led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz.

No communication is planned between US representatives and Zelensky who has arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet the kingdom’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman

The list of the topics of the meeting may include, according to the sides’ previous statements, the mineral agreement and the resumption of Western arms supplies to Ukraine. The negotiating parties made no public statements ahead of the talks, which will be conducted behind closed doors.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said that Washington would somehow brief Moscow on the outcome of its meeting with Ukrainian officials in Jeddah.
