PARIS, March 9. /TASS/. France intends to supply weapons to Ukraine worth 195 million euros ($211 million) using interest from frozen Russian assets in 2025, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said.
"Thanks to interest from frozen Russian assets, we will tap new funds worth 195 million euros this year," Lecornu said in an interview with the La Tribune weekend newspaper, adding that it would be used for "delivery of 155mm shells as well as AASM gliding bombs, which arm the Ukrainian Mirage 2000 fighter jets."
Paris will "continue to replace older equipment that will be sent to Kiev," including AMX-10RC wheeled tanks and VAB light armored vehicles, which appeared in the French armed forces in the 1970s, the minister added.
On February 6, Lecornu said that the first French Mirage 2000 aircraft had been supplied to Ukraine without specifying the number of fighter jets delivered. However, media outlets reported that France could have delivered no more than six fighters to Ukraine. According to experts, these fighter jets are optimized for strike missions, and they can also hit air targets.
In July, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow would definitely respond to the theft of its assets in Europe, adding that Moscow intended to initiate legal prosecution of people involved. According to the Kremlin spokesman, Europe had taken the worst path by deciding to use Russian assets to help Kiev.
