EU asks EC, Slovakia, Ukraine to find solutions to issue of Russian gas transit

Russian gas transit to Europe, including Slovakia, via Ukraine was fully halted on January 1 due to Kiev’s refusal to extend a relevant agreement

BRUSSELS, March 6. /TASS/. Heads of EU states and governments asked the European Commission (EC), Slovakia and Ukraine to intensify efforts towards "finding workable solutions to the gas transit issue," including through resumption at an extraordinary summit in Brussels, Reuters reported citing draft conclusions.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that he wanted a mention of reopening Russian gas transit through Ukraine as part of summit conclusions, according to the agency.

Russian gas transit to Europe, including Slovakia, via Ukraine was fully halted on January 1 due to Kiev’s refusal to extend a relevant agreement. Later, Fico said that gas consultations between EU countries originally scheduled for January 7 had been disrupted due to the absence of the Ukrainian delegation.
