Merz rules out coalition with forces not ready for changes in immigration policy

The candidate for German chancellor from the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union made the statement at a campaign

BERLIN, February 23. /TASS/. Christian Democratic Union Chairman Friedrich Merz rules out that his party will enter into a coalition with political forces that are not willing to make drastic changes in economic and immigration policy.

The candidate for German chancellor from the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union made the statement at a campaign event in Munich ahead of the parliamentary election set for Sunday.

"We will not enter into a coalition with anyone who is not ready to make changes to Germany's economic and immigration policy," he said, the DPA news agency reported.

Merz reiterated that he would not hold any coalition talks with the Alternative for Germany.

"Under no circumstances will we have any discussions, let alone negotiations or even participation in a government with the AfG. This is ruled out," he stated.
