Israel expects Hamas to submit names of hostages to be freed on February 15 — paper

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is expected to send the list to David Barnea, head of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, the source specified

TEL AVIV, February 14. /TASS/. Israel anticipates the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to provide a list of three hostages to be released on Saturday, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing an Israeli official.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is expected to send the list to David Barnea, head of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, the source specified. If the hostages are freed over the weekend, the truce-threatening crisis will be resolved, the newspaper noted.

On February 10, Abu Ubaida, the spokesperson for Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military faction, announced a postponement in the release of the next batch of hostages scheduled for February 15. The movement claimed Israel violated the agreement by "delaying the return of displaced people from the south of the enclave to the north, opening fire on Gaza civilians, and failing to ensure the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid."

On February 11, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of renewed military action in Gaza if Hamas did not release the Israeli hostages by noon on February 15.

On February 13, Hamas confirmed that it would comply with the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, including the timely exchange of hostages.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on January 15 that thanks to the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement to implement a ceasefire in Gaza and release hostages held in the enclave. The agreement, which includes three phases, entered into force on January 19. During the 42-day first phase of the deal, Hamas is to release 33 hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners from Israeli custody. The last stage of the hostages' release took place on February 8: three Israelis returned home from Gaza, one of them has German citizenship. In return, Israel freed more than 180 Palestinian prisoners.
