Hungary considering further cooperation with International Criminal Court — top diplomat

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto still noted that "the ICC has recently turned into a politicized tool, discrediting the entire international judicial system"

BUDAPEST, February 7. /TASS/. Budapest supports US President Donald Trump’s decision to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) and is considering whether to continue cooperation with the body, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said.

He pointed out that Trump’s move was "absolutely understandable." "The ICC has recently turned into a politicized tool, discrediting the entire international judicial system. Its decisions have only escalated uncertainty in parts of the world where the situation is already complicated," the top Hungarian diplomat wrote on Facebook (prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which is designated as extremist).

According to Szijjarto, nevertheless, "Hungary is considering the possibility of cooperation with the ICC."

On February 6, Trump signed an executive order sanctioning the ICC. The US president explained that the court had "engaged in unwarranted and unsubstantiated actions targeting America and our close ally Israel." Trump believes that the ICC opened investigations into US citizens without a legitimate basis and "further abused its power by issuing unfounded arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant.
