Belarusian president orders cabinet to keep working until new government is formed

Earlier, the country's government resigned before the newly elected president in accordance with the Belarusian constitution

MINSK, February 3. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered the prime minister, his deputies and ministers to continue performing their duties until a new cabinet is formed, the presidential press service said in a statement.

"On February 3, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree 'On the Powers of the Government of the Republic of Belarus.' In order to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the executive branch, the head of state’s decree, which is based on Article 84.7 and Article 106.11 of the Constitution, tasked the prime minister, his deputies, ministers, chairs of state committees and the head of the government office to continue performing their duties until a new cabinet is formed," the statement reads.

Earlier, the country's government resigned before the newly elected president in accordance with the Belarusian constitution.

Lukashenko won the Belarusian presidential election on January 26.
