DUBAI, December 10. /TASS/. Mohammed al-Bashir has announced that he will serve as the head of the interim Syrian government.
Speaking after the joint meeting of the Council of Ministers, formely under Bashar Assad, and the so-called Syrian Salvation government, established by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (deemed terrorist and outlawed in Russia), al-Bashir said that the meeting was "dedicated to the transition of duties from the deposed regime’s government to the interim Syrian government."
"It will govern the country during the transition period, expected to end on March 1. We were ordered to run the government until March 1, 2025," he said.
Mohammed al-Bashir has led the Syrian Salvation Government since January, 2024. This opposition body operated as an alternative for the official government and governed territories under the opposition’s control in the Idlib Province.
In late November, the opposition militias initiated a large-scale offensive on the positions of the Syrian army. On December 8, they entered Damascus; the government forces left the city. The Prime Minister of Syria stated his readiness to carry out a peaceful transition of power.
