The agreement on the first ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon since hostilities flared up in October 2023 took effect on the morning of November 27

TEL AVIV, December 9. /TASS/. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is not withdrawing its units from south Lebanon and continues to counteract any threat to the Jewish state and its citizens, as well as controls the observation of a ceasefire, Israeli army spokeswoman Anna Ukolova told a TASS correspondent.

"The IDF’s goals in south Lebanon include observing a ceasefire regime and ensuring that Hezbollah does not return to south Lebanon and again becomes a threat to Israel’s security," she added.

The agreement on the first ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon since hostilities flared up in October 2023 took effect on the morning of November 27. US President Joe Biden announced that the agreements between the Jewish state and Hezbollah provided for the re-establishment of the Lebanese army and state security forces’ control of the country’s territory within 60 days. After that, the Israeli army will be gradually pulled out of Lebanon.
