DUBAI, November 27. /TASS/. Iran has launched several thousand advanced gas centrifuges for the production of enriched uranium in reaction to the November 21 resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors criticizing Iran for its alleged "lack of cooperation," Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) head Mohammad Eslami said.
"From the very beginning, we said that if the three European countries do not engage and continue with the confrontation <...>, we will definitely take countermeasures, which is what we did the moment the resolution was approved, by beginning the process of delivering gas to several thousand advanced centrifuges within the framework of the development program of our nuclear industry," he said at a press conference aired by SNN.
According to the AEOI chief, it is important that Iran "has the opportunity to increase productivity" and "use more advanced equipment." Nevertheless, Eslami explained that the Iranian nuclear program is exclusively peaceful, is being implemented under the IAEA’s control, while the uranium enrichment level at this point does not surpass the 60% established by the development plan for the nuclear industry.
On November 21, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a pro-Western resolution criticizing Iran for allegedly being uncooperative with the global nuclear watchdog. According to the document, the IAEA must issue a detailed report on Iran’s nuclear program by next spring. Nineteen countries voted for the resolution, three voted against, and 12 abstained. Iran responded by announcing plans to launch a substantial number of new centrifuges for uranium enrichment.
