US, South Korea hold river fording drills near North Korea

About 470 people are taking part in the maneuvers

SEOUL, March 20. /TASS/. The South Korean armed forces and the United States are holding river fording drills in the area near the border with North Korea, the Yonhap news agency reported.

About 470 people are taking part in the maneuvers, which began on March 11 on the Imjin River near Paju city and will end on March 22. About 65 pieces of equipment have been mobilized, including CH-47D Chinook and AH-64E Apache helicopters, K1E1 tanks and short-range anti-aircraft missile systems. The purpose of the exercise is to improve cohesion between the US and South Korean militaries.

On March 18, North Korea conducted practice firing from extra-large caliber 600 mm multiple launch rocket systems. The exercises were supervised by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
