Serbian president congratulates Putin on election win

Alexander Vucic handed over his congratulatory letter to Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko during their meeting on Tuesday

BELGRADE, March 19. /TASS/. Serbian President Alexander Vucic has congratulated Vladimir Putin on winning the presidential election in Russia.

He handed over his congratulatory letter to Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko during their meeting on Tuesday. A joint photo of the two was posted on Vucic’s Instagram account (Instagram is banned in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist).

"During a meeting with Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko, I availed myself of this opportunity and handed over a letter for Russian President Vladimir Putin, where, along with my congratulations on his victory in the election, I pointed to the difficult situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, serious challenges Serbia is facing. I also thanked Russia for its support for Serbia’s territorial integrity," Vucic wrote.

Russia held its first three-day presidential election from March 15-17. According to the Central Election Commission, after 100% of the vote was tallied by local election commissions, incumbent head of state Vladimir Putin won in a landslide victory over his three rivals with 87.28% of the vote. Voter turnout was 77.44%.
