BEIJING, March 1. /TASS/. Countries possessing nuclear weapons should create an effective security architecture in Europe, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said.
"We call on all sides to stay calm, show restraint and create a balanced, effective and sustainable architecture of European security through talks," she said at a news briefing, commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s State of the Nation Address to the Federal Assembly in which the Russian leader pointed to the dangerous Western rhetoric regarding nuclear weapons.
According to the Chinese diplomat, it is necessary to work jointly toward "reducing tensions and lowering strategic risks."
Addressing the assembled lawmakers and other dignitaries on February 29, Putin said that Western countries "are scaring the whole world that all this really threatens a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons and the destruction of civilization." Actions by the United States and its allies have actually caused the dismantling of the European security system as he stressed that this "creates risks for everybody."
