Palestinian leader rejects principles of Netanyahu’s ‘Day After’ plan

Abbas "warned about dangerous consequences of Netanyahu’s principles that challenge international efforts towards a ceasefire and calls for the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip"

RABAT, February 29. /TASS/. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has sent letters to foreign leaders and heads of international organizations to say that he rejects the principles outlined in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s "Day After" plan for post-war Gaza, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported.

According to WAFA, Abbas "warned about dangerous consequences of Netanyahu’s principles that challenge international efforts towards a ceasefire and calls for the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and increasing humanitarian aid, including food, medicine and articles of daily necessity."

In his letters, the Palestinian leader called "for an immediate international interference to stop Israel’s hunger war in Gaza, which is aggravated by epidemics, and to give shelter to more than 1.8 million of displaced Palestinians and guarantee their return to their homes, especially in the northern Gaza Strip."

At the end of last week, the Israeli foreign ministry released Netanyahu’s ‘Day After’ plan, under which Israel will seek to maintain security control over the entire area west of the Jordan River, including Gaza and the land, air and sea to prevent activities of terrorist groups in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip after the war with Hamas ends.

Apart from that, Israel will seek the closure of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and will continue objecting to the recognition of the Palestinian State.
