Ukrainian troops may already be using US-supplied rocket systems, DPR militia officer says

Earlier, the media reported that Washington was considering sending four more rocket launchers to Ukraine in the next tranche of military aid

MOSCOW, June 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s military may already be using US-supplied HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) to bombard populated areas of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), DPR Militia Lieutenant-Colonel Andrey Bayevsky said on Monday.

"The point is that it has been reported more than once that single blasts, in particular, in the Kuibyshevsky district [of Donetsk] are more powerful. So far, this is unconfirmed information but there are suspicions that US-made multiple launch rocket systems with a monoblock warhead are being used," he said in a live broadcast on Television Channel One.

"The power of this blast will, indeed, be larger," he specified.

The US-based newspaper Politico reported last week, citing sources in the Pentagon that the United States was considering sending four more rocket launchers to Ukraine in the next tranche of military aid. As the paper stressed, the US is already sending four of the HIMARS and precision munitions that can strike targets at a range of up to 80 km. If approved by the White House, this step will double the number of rocket launchers supplied to Ukraine, it said.

The decision to send four more HIMARS to Ukraine as part of the next military aid package is not yet final and the US leadership intends to proceed from the Ukrainian military’s "immediate needs," the paper said.
