China looking forward to dialogue on Korean Peninsula issue

Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula is in the common interests of all parties in this region, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian noted

BEIJING, May 5. /TASS/. Beijing remains hopeful for a prompt start of dialogue on resolving the Korean Peninsula issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on Thursday, commenting on the latest North Korean ballistic missile launch.

"Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, as well as promoting progress towards finding a political solution to the peninsula’s issue is in the common interests of all parties in this region," he pointed out.

"We hope that the parties will move towards each other, starting a meaningful dialogue as soon as possible in order to find a balanced solution to the relevant concerns of all parties," the Chinese diplomat emphasized.

According to the South Korean authorities, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the outskirts of Pyongyang towards the Sea of Japan at about 12:03 pm local time on Wednesday. The missile flew some 470 kilometers, reaching a maximum altitude of 780 kilometers. North Korea has conducted more than ten missile tests since the beginning of the year.
