Baku turns down proposals of tit-for-tat troop drawdown on border, Armenian PM says

It was stated that the creation of a commission on the demarcation and delimitation of the border should be preceded by steps aiming to bolster the level of stability and security

YEREVAN, March 31. /TASS/. Azerbaijan is turning down Armenia’s proposals of a reciprocal troop withdrawal from the border in order to de-escalate and begin the process of delimitation and demarcation, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting of the cabinet of ministers on Thursday.

"Obviously, the creation of a commission on the demarcation and delimitation of the border should be preceded by steps aiming to bolster the level of stability and security. Armenia proposed to reciprocally draw down troops on the Soviet-times border, to pass [its] protection to a limited number of border guards and to perform international monitoring. Baku has not yet responded to the offer, according to information received from third countries, it is unacceptable to Baku," he stated.
