Bulgaria records over 800 daily COVID-19 cases, nearly 100 deaths

The total caseload reached 219,580

SOFIA, February 2. /TASS/. Bulgaria's health services recorded 832 new COVID-19 cases in the past day, 702 more than the day before, while the total caseload reached 219,580, the Health Ministry said on its Unified Information Portal on Tuesday.

Over the past day, 97 coronavirus patients died, bringing the total death toll to 9,142. Currently, 2,850 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, with 265 of them in intensive care units. Since the start of the pandemic, 188,972 people have recovered in the country.

In the past 24 hours, as many as 11,576 coronavirus tests were conducted in Bulgaria. The number of COVID-19 cases among healthcare workers rose to 9,527. The country's hospitals remain in a critical situation due to the lack of medical personnel.

Bulgaria is gradually cancelling restrictions introduced over the pandemic. The country’s educational institutions, sports and fitness clubs are restoring their work. Large shopping centers, gyms and dance clubs have been reopened. However, public catering enterprises will be closed until March 1.

The first coronavirus cases in Bulgaria were registered on March 8, 2020. The country’s authorities extended the state of emergency epidemiological situation until late April.
