Russian de-miners defuse over 200 explosive devices in Laos

Russian deminers mostly detect and defuse US-made cluster bombs, as well as artillery shells of various calibers

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. Russian military engineers have defused over 200 explosive devices in Laos since November 2020, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"Military servicemen from the International Anti-Mine Center of the Russian Armed Forces found over 200 explosive devices as part of a humanitarian demining mission in the Xiangkhouang province, Laos. More than one hectare of land has been cleared of mines," the statement reads.

According to the ministry, Russian deminers mostly detect and defuse US-made cluster bombs, as well as artillery shells of various calibers.

Thirty-two deminers from the Russian Armed Forces' International Anti-Mine Center arrived in Laos on November 22, 2020. The team is equipped with advanced tools to detect explosive devices, including the IMP-3 induction mine detectors, the MBI-P2 magnetometric bomb detectors and the PPO-2I subsurface detectors. This is Russian military engineers’ third demining mission in Laos.
