RIO DE JANEIRO, February 22. /TASS/. The West’s attempts to Ukrainize the agenda of the Group of 20 (G20) have failed as most countries of the Global South did not support them, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following a G20 ministerial meeting.
According to him, the developing nations taking part in the event "actively emphasized the need to get away from trying to artificially reduce opportunities through attempts to achieve geopolitical goals" that are often aimed at protecting the interests of a small group of countries.
"The majority of developing countries, the countries of the Global South, do not back attempts by some of our Western colleagues to redirect the discussion from this key issue to support for the Kiev regime and unfounded accusations against Russia, as well as to Ukrainize the agenda in every possible way. The discussion that took place here made this clear once again," the top Russian diplomat noted.
Lavrov also pointed out that "the West is blatantly distorting the current situation in the global economy by the methods it is using to punish those who don’t follow its rules, which are clearly neocolonial in nature."
