Two villages in east Ukraine left without electricity after shelling by Ukrainian forces

The settlements of Vasilyevka and Krasny Partizan remain without electricity after Ukrainian forces shelled a local substation

DONETSK, March 2. /TASS/. Two settlements in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have been left without electricity after Ukrainian forces shelled the territory, head of DPR's mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) Ruslan Yakubov said on Saturday.

"At 9:30pm today, Ukrainian forces have opened targeted fire at the Razdolnaya substation in the village of Vasilyevka," Donetsk News Agency quoted Yakubov as saying. "As a result of the shelling, two transformers were damaged. The villages of Vasilyevka and Krasny Partizan currently remain without electricity," he added.

On Friday Ukrainian forces have shelled the settlement of Verkhnetoretskoye which remains under DPR's control. As a result of the shelling, around 600 residents of the nearby settlement of Krasny Partizan were left without gas supply.

On Fenraury 27 the Contact Group on settltment in eastern Ukraine met in Minsk to discuss the situation in Donbass. OCSE's coordinator at the security sub-group suggested to announce a new ceasefire starting on March 6. However, the Ukrainian side refused to coordinate OSCE's initiative on the "spring ceasefire" during talks. The current ceasefire in eastern Ukraine entered into force on 29 December 2018 but violations keep occurring.
