GENEVA, August 31. /TASS/. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Wednesday that three Russian female athletes, who participated in the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, have been disqualified over positive results of their doping samples reanalysis.
The three athletes at the issue are weightlifters Marina Shainova (2008 Olympic silver medalist in under-58 kg weight category) and Nadezhda Yevstyukhina (2008 Olympics bronze medalist in under-75 kg weight category) as well as runner Tatiana Firova (2008 Olympics silver medalist in 4x400 relay).
"Marina Shainova, 30, of the Russian Federation, competing in the Women’s 58kg weightlifting event, has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she ranked second, and for which she was awarded the silver medal," the IOC said in its statement.
"Reanalysis of Shainova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances stanozolol and dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol)," the statement added.
"Reanalysis of Evstyukhina’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and EPO," the IOC said.
"Tatyana Firova, 33, of the Russian Federation, competing in athletics in the Women’s 400m and 4x400m events, has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she respectively ranked sixth and second with her teammates," the statement from the IOC said. "Reanalysis of Firova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol)."
Three more athletes, namely Moldova’s Alexandru Dudoglo (Men’s 69kg weightlifting event), Armenia’s Tigran Martirosyan (Men’s 69kg weightlifting event) and Azerbaijan’s Intigam Zairov (Men’s 85kg weightlifting event), also tested positive for performance enhancing drugs at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, according to the IOC.
