MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Russian healthcare system boasts strong epidemic monitoring and robust infrastructure, and the country is better prepared for pandemics than most others, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Russia Batyr Berdyklychev told TASS.
"The Russian healthcare system, as demonstrated during COVID-19, has a strong and efficient epidemiological monitoring system, in which agencies of Rospotrebnadzor [the Russian Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare - TASS] and the Ministry of Health are involved. Furthermore, the healthcare system has a well-developed infrastructure," the WHO representative said. "Additionally, Russia has significant potential for the production of medications, diagnostic reagents, and vaccines. Therefore, it can be said that Russia is better prepared than most countries," he noted.
The relevant system in Russia "is effective and well-structured," the WHO country chief said, adding that "there should be no complacency" in this regard.
