MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a terrorist attack planned by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) near the Balaklava power station in Sevastopol, detaining a suspect, the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB reported.
"An attempt at a terrorist attack was intercepted at a transportation facility in Sevastopol near the Balaklava thermal power plant," the center stated.
The FSB noted that the 29-year-old local resident, who established contact with the SBU in September 2023, was tasked with disrupting railway operations by setting fire to special-purpose equipment. "The suspect was detained by FSB officers at the crime scene," the PRC said.
According to the Russian security service, the suspect used the money received from his handlers to purchase flammable liquid with the intention to use it for arson.
The Investigative Committee of Russia in Crimea and Sevastopol initiated criminal cases under Article 275.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (engaging in covert activities with a foreign power), as well as part 3 of Article 30, part 1 of Article 205 (attempted act of terrorism). Active search measures and crime investigation procedures are ongoing.
