Ministry of Communications bans access to Facebook, Instagram in DPR

In particular, access to platforms owned by the US-based Meta company has been banned as it earlier allowed calls for violence against Russian-speaking users

DONETSK, May 11. /TASS/. Access to Facebook and Instagram (Internet platforms banned in Russia since they are owned by Meta corporation deemed extremist by the Russian authorities) has been blocked in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) as part of efforts to protect the people from harmful information, the Ministry of Communications said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Service providers in the Donetsk People’s Republic have started to block access to information that may harm DPR residents," the statement reads. "In particular, access to platforms owned by the US-based Meta company has been banned as it earlier allowed calls for violence against Russian-speaking users. Consequently, access to Meta’s social media networks, Facebook and Instagram, has been banned in the DPR," the ministry added.

According to the Ministry of Communications, in accordance with decisions made by the authorities, access "to criminal information, including content concerning child pornography and drugs, as well as suicidal and other types of banned information, particularly related to extremism and terrorism," will be blocked in the DPR.
