MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Russia's National Guard servicemen rescued local residents in the Kiev region who were trying to evacuate when they came under fire from nationalists, the National Guard press service told TASS.
"The other day, in the Kiev region, the car in which local residents were traveling was shelled by nationalists and caught fire. People could not get out of the car. National Guard colonel A. Khristenko came to their rescue. Risking his life, under the militants’ fire, he gave a command to his unit to cover fire, and he himself pulled the victims out of the burning vehicle," the agency’s source said.
The National Guard noted that the officer then took people to a safe place, provided first aid and helped evacuate to a medical facility.
