HAIKOU /China/, February 25. /TASS/. Hainan province on the south of China creates its own yacht brands and will actively develop sailing tourism in the region, the Hainan Daily reported.
According to the newspaper, leisure boats, in particular, are already being built by Diamond Party Yachts, a company recently established on the island, which was registered in the resort town of Sanya. Its first yacht has already been launched and sold to a customer. The company is expected to continue its production ramp-up in light of the strong market demand.
"This marks another breakthrough in shaping the supply chain of Hainan's yachting industry," commented Hu Xiaoming, consultant for the Sanya Central Business District Office. He said the province's free trade port has created excellent conditions for the expansion of the relevant sector.
Last year, the city registered about 320 new yachts, local authorities said. In just 12 months sailing and speedboats in Sanya made more than 159 thousand sailings - a nearly 50% increase over the same period in the previous year. As a result, China's leading resort continues to be the absolute leader in the yachting industry among other Hainan counties and cities.
The article notes that until recently local companies were mainly focused on producing yacht components, but that lately, thanks to the economic boom and incentives offered by the government, Hainan-based companies have been able to provide full engineering and professional shipbuilding services. At the same time the province continues to strengthen and broaden its yacht building contacts with other countries. To promote boating holidays in Sanya, special organizations have been formed to promote consumption, exhibitions and modern services.
Back in 2006 there were only eight yachts in Sanya, by 2013 there were more than 240, and in 2021 there were 945. Dozens of companies specializing in the yachting business, as well as several specialized clubs have settled in the city. According to the official plan, specially equipped marinas will be able to receive more sailing boats and speedboats by 2025, which will annually carry a huge number of tourists. The government has set a key goal: to create a complex of several marinas in Sanya, which will become the "yachting capital of the Asia-Pacific region.
