Two Moscow rally participants apprehended over violence against police

Investigative Committee’s Main Moscow Investigative Directorate spokeswoman said one of them hit a police officer in the head several times during the January 23 rally

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. The investigators have apprehended two participants of the unauthorized rally in Moscow, suspected of violence against police officers: one of them has hit a policeman with a car, Investigative Committee’s Main Moscow Investigative Directorate spokeswoman Yulia Ivanova told TASS Tuesday.

"Two men were apprehended, they will be charged soon. Both originate from Russia’s Kalmykia region," she said.

According to Ivanova, one of them hit a police officer in the head several times during the January 23 rally at the Pushkinskaya square. Another protester hit a police officer with his car in response to a legal pull over order.

Ivanova disclosed that the investigators continue to identify all people involved in illegal activities in Moscow.

Following the January 23 rallies, four criminal cases were initiated over charges of violence against police officers, as well as cases of hooliganism and damage of a Federal Security Service (FSB) vehicle. Besides, the police initiated a criminal case over traffic blocking.

According to the police, the unauthorized rally was attended by about 4,000 people. About 40 participants and about the same number of police officers were injured in the ensuing clashes.
