Tokyo set to reduce cooperation with Russia in science and technology

According to Japan’s Minister for Economic Security Takayuki Kobayashi, Tokyo will thoroughly consider this issue in coordination with the other G7 countries

TOKYO, June 14. /TASS/. Japan is set to consider curtailing cooperation with Russia in science and technology, Japan’s Minister for Economic Security Takayuki Kobayashi announced at a news conference in Tokyo on Tuesday.

"We should thoroughly consider this issue in coordination with the other G7 countries," the Japanese minister said. He confirmed that cooperation with Russia in projects relating to the International Space Station and ITER fusion experiment in particular was meant.

The UK, Italy, Canada, France, the US, Germany, and Japan which make up the G7 have already made a decision to pare down participation in projects in science and research with Russia, Kobayashi said.

Last Friday, Tokyo announced a new package of sanctions against Russia prohibiting exports of trucks, dump trucks, bulldozers and other goods to the country from June 17.
