Upper house seeks Europe/US assets freeze if sanctions hit Russia

"Any sanctions should be reciprocal so we wish the law to spell out opportunities the president and the government have," senator Andrei Klishas

MOSCOW, March 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia's Federation Council upper house of parliament wants legislation drawn up to freeze assets of European and American companies operating in Russia if international sanctions are imposed, constitutional legislation, judicial and legal issues committee chairman Andrei Klishas said.

"Any sanctions should be reciprocal so we wish the law to spell out opportunities the president and the government have," Klishas told reporters on Wednesday.

He said he would ask the house speaker to instruct three committees to produce a bill and promised to discuss it with lower house deputies.
